Stan Lee

A t-shirt design I whipped-up to celebrate the great man's 90th birthday. Excelsior!

Lego Shazam

A little something I whipped up during the xmas break... been meaning to work on another Lego comic cover ever since I did the Superman cover back in 2011.

Sunday 14 October 2012

A sweaty gig poster

I made this today for my friend's band, Gurp. My favourite part was drawing the little hairs on the dude's shoulders.

Friday 12 October 2012

Dreamcatcher

Now that the deadline for this has passed, I can finally reveal what I've been working on for the last few months.
It's called Dreamcatcher and it's for the 2012 Graphic Short Story Prize. I'll find out if I've won during the week of the 29th October...

Here's page 1 if you're too lazy to click on the link above to see all 4 pages.

This weekend I need to do another poster for the excellent band Gurp, then it's back to working on Fixed Up issue 2.

Monday 6 August 2012

Command + P

Issue 1 has been sent to print - only doing 30 copies for Caption, just to test the waters... still, it's mega exciting!

Fixed Up's first steps

After a protracted hiatus, Fixed Up is gaining momentum. I've sourced some really good printers (oxuniprint) so I can have a small presence at this years Oxford Comic-Con, (Caption). It's a small indie comic con, but if you're in the Oxford area on 18-19 August and fancy getting yourself one of the limited-edition, collecter's-item, first-issues of Fixed Up, then come along!

Also, issue two is gestating, I expect it to consume my life sometime in the next few months.

P.E.S.T. Control

I've taken a break from Fixed Up to concentrate on another venture - a submission for Oxford's Phoenix comic - colour pages and character sketches to follow ASAP!
In brief, it's a story about my hamster Digby and how he saves the world on a nightly basis with a team of his critter pals, The P.E.S.T. Control!

I'll be taking a break from posting the inked-pages, to start uploading the final colour pages. Enjoy!

Saturday 21 April 2012

The difficult second issue

I've spent the morning working on the text for issue 2. I'm way ahead of schedule, which is excellent. I was planning on finishing issue 1 in June!
But it's a lovely day outside and I need to go and get some more sawdust for my hamster, Digby, so I need to quit now before I get my pencil and drawing pad out.
Issue 2 will be chocablock, there's lots of ground to cover: new girlfriends, new countries and maybe even a few X-rated scenes...

Page 10, inks - 'It made no difference to my life whatsoever'

I haven't posted a new page for ages, apologies!
Here's page ten, inked. Feel free to re-read to previous pages if you want to do some Fixed Up catch up.

Finish Him!

FIxed Up issue 1 is complete.

All it needs now is a proper edit from my wonderfully supportive girlfriend, and then I can put it to bed... and start thinking about issue 2. In the meantime, I just need to finalise the cover, then see if anyone actually wants to stock/purhase/read the damn thing.

I'll be posting a few more pages online very soon, once they're edited.

I started issue 1 in xmas, so all in all it took me four months to do a 24-page full-colour comic book, in my spare-time. Not bad! Now if only someone could pay me to do this full-time...

Team Dignitas

One more post before I sign off for the weekend. I did this for my friend Dava - AKA Zaccubus from Team Dignitas. He needed a t-shirt design, so I whipped this together. Not sure if they'll use it or not - but I enjoyed making it!

Page 1, colour

Because it's my birthday tomorrow, here's an early present for y'all - the first colour page of Fixed Up
I'm going to Birmingham Comic Con tomorrow with my very patient girlfriend, and plan to spend my pocket-money on as much comics and toys as possible. You'd never think I was going to be 31 tomorrow would you?
P.S. The sharp-eyed among you will notice I removed all the rude words - they didn't gel with the rest of the pages. So Fixed Up is family friendly. For now.
P.P.S Don't forget to vote for my t-shirt design on threadless! The Dark Knight... Rises!

Wednesday 28 March 2012

Page 9, inks - 'Together Forever'

I know it's been a while since I last posted an inked-page, but I've been distracted by:
  • excellent weather
  • three of four illustration competitions and a couple of wedding invitations to design
  • a pile of new comics
  • my impending 31st birthday and the angst thereof
I promise a colourful bonus page by the end of the week, to celebrate my birthday the long weekend which I have planned.

Saturday 24 March 2012

The Dark Knight... Rises!

There's been another competition which I've been working on, which has kept me away from finishing the colour pages. I had fun working on this, it's for a compeition for design by humans and I can win big bucks.
The other entries are very serious and Batmany though, so I'm not sure how well I'll do!

Wednesday 21 March 2012

Colour me bad

So I've been distracted the past few weeks with other projects, and sickness, and bbqs.
I plan to post a few more inked pages before the end of the week, and seriously start completing the colour pages.
Below is just a taste of things to come...

Monday 19 March 2012

The Man of Steel

Sorry for the lack of Fixed Up pages over the last few days, I've been busy making a few wedding invitations for friends. I also made this on the weekend, for a competition:

Thursday 15 March 2012

Page 7, inks

So the inking and lettering is finally all done! I'll be uploading the rest of the story over the next few weeks, while I start on the colouring! Time to break out the crayons, woo-hoo!

Page 2&3, inks

Here's the double-page-spread for pages 2 and 3. This is gonna look awesome when it's in colour.
Page 4 will follow tomorrow - it's full of text, so I'll need to do a few spell-checks on it first, before releasing it into the wilderness.

Wednesday 7 March 2012

Page 1, inks - Oxford, present day

Well, this is it - I proudly present the very first inked and lettered page of Fixed Up.
The font used is Silver Age from the excellent Blambot.com
Read, enjoy, and stay-tuned for the next exciting page, in which we return to the 90s. (I'll be uploading the inked-pages for the next few weeks, then I'll start with the colours.)

Friday 2 March 2012

Page 23, pencils - End of Part One

This is it: the last pencilled page for Part One. On the weekend I'll start uploading the much-anticipated inked pages. Thanks for sticking with me, Fixed-Uppers!
Of course, there's still a few bonus pages, and the cover... but I'm keeping those under wraps for now...

Tomorrow we're going to London again, I'm planning on going wild at a comic con: http://www.londonsupercomicconvention.com/
Stan (The Man) Lee will be there, but he's an expensive man to see. I might muster the courage to bring some of the Fixed Up pages to show off, we'll see how I feel tomorrow.
In the meantime, here's another page for y'all. I just inked page 15, I'll start posting the inks as soon as the pencils are all up.

Saturday 18 February 2012

We're going to London tonight to see Jay & Silent Bob Get Old, after a trip to Forbidden Planet - 'natch.
Anyway, here's page 10 for your enjoyment.

This one's a double-page spread!

The adventure begins here!
Apologies for the dull blog, I'll sort out a decent header once I'm done with the inking (I started page 9 tonight).
Stay tuned for more pages!
